EMDR Refresher Training - Assessment Phase

The Assessment phase – also known as Phase 3 -  is probably the part of the EMDR protocol which causes the most confusion for newly trained EMDR therapists.  There seem to be so many different parts to it and at first it can feel tricky to see how it flows.

In this short course Naomi talks you through the different stages of the Assessment phase and how they all fit together. I’ll explain what makes a good negative cognition and why the positive cognition is so important.  There are role plays so you can see what it looks like in practice – and there are a couple of interactive examples for you to use to practice spotting when things are going wrong.

This course covers:

  • The different parts of the Assessment phase, including the target memory, the negative cognition, the positive cognition, the ratings scales (VOC and SUDS), emotions and body sensations.
  • Common mistakes in the Assessment phase and how to avoid them.
  • Why the different parts of the Assessment phase are important.
  • Where the Assessment phase fits in the wider EMDR Standard Protocol.
